BEST OF THE BEST
At our last get together and report, we only had a couple of meets before the green was closed for 8 very long, boringly tedious weeks of maintenance. We got a couple of Wednesday mixed sunset bowls in, where everyone was in full swing and lamenting about how they’d spend the next 2 months, and the other bowls day was our “Best of the Best” playoff - a day full of fun and hard fought bowls and frivolity. In fact, I can’t recall who won the day!
THE GREEN TURNS 50
Following on from the discovery that the green was having a very special 50th birthday, and with little time to organise anything before it was being closed for maintenance, the Pearls are organising a New Year’s Eve “Have A Go” social. It’s planned to run from 5pm to 9pm and we’re inviting people from all around to join in and have some fun, learn a new skill and meet your neighbours. We’ll even have an area where the kids can a play a few different games to keep them occupied. Roll out the picnic blanket, bring a hamper, or use the club barbeque, and just relax and enjoy sunset on the green. Refreshments and snacks will be available from the club.
DANGAR ISLAND “THE GREEN IS OUT” INVITATIONAL
Since 2018 it has been the tradition of the Pearls to travel overseas and compete against the fiercely competitive Dangar Island mens team for “The Green Is Out” Trophy. There was a time during covid where we couldn’t meet, but when we can we have fielded some great players and had strongly contested fights for the trophy. Unfortunately they won yet again, so we invited them over for the opening of the green and a new comp called “The Green is Back” in the hope of saving the day. Again, they were uncompromising and sadly, they claimed victory yet again.
“MOONEY MOONEY WOY WOY CLUB INVITATIONAL” AND “THE GREEN IS BACK” PLAY-OFF
In my last report I mentioned that at the end of June we hosted Woy Woy Club’s last hoorah officially bowling under their own banner of green and gold. It was so successful that they badgered us for another play day, and upon the reopening of the green on Sunday, we welcomed them as well as Team Dangar Island. It was a great day with lots of joking and camaraderie between the fun-loving members. It seems they can’t get enough and want to make it a bi or tri annual event along with our Mud Crabs.
AND FINALLY…
A big thanks to our club and our greenkeeper. It was great to be back on the rink and we’re all looking forward to some fun in the sun. We also enjoyed a rather special Christmas get together in the annexe which mostly remains “what goes on holiday, stays on …” LOL! … Roll on summer!
